Dr. Kevin Mooney
Dr. Kevin Mooney is a native of Woburn and a cum laude graduate of Boston College and Georgetown University School of Dentistry. Upon graduation from Georgetown, Dr. Mooney began a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, where he received advanced training in all the dental specialties. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for outstanding professional service and Commanding Officers Award for Clinical Excellence, an award given to the best clinician in a Dental Clinic with 75 General Dentists and Specialists.
After completing his tour of duty, Dr. Mooney returned to Woburn where he has been in practice since 1989. He has been selected as “Best Local Dentist” in the Greater Woburn area for 20 consecutive years from 1997 to 2017 and was in Boston Checkbook Magazine multiple times for “Boston Area’s Best Dentist.” He is a member of the American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society, Eastern Middlesex District Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry.
In 2017, Dr. Mooney began a two-year sabbatical where he volunteered with multiple Dental Missionary trips, providing dental care to needy areas in the Appalachian Region and Cuba. He is excited to begin private practice again and is looking forward to seeing all former and new patients!
In July of 2020, The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) announced that Dr. Mooney would receive their prestigious Fellowship Award, a credential that recognizes AGD member’s commitment to excellence in dental education. Dr. Mooney accepted this award along with 340 other recipients.
The AGD Fellowship Award is presented to dentists looking to provide the highest quality of dental care by remaining current in their profession. In order to receive this award, Dr. Mooney completed 500 hours of continuing dental education, passed a comprehensive written exam and fulfilled three years of continuing membership with the AGD. As a recipient of this award, Dr. Mooney has joined an elite group of more than 17,105 members of the dental community who understand that great smiles and good oral health for their patients are the result of going above and beyond basic requirements. The Fellowship Award symbolizes excellence in the dental profession and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
“Becoming an AGD Fellow means a dentist has taken part in some of the most rigorous continuing dental education programs today,” said Connie White, DDS, FAGD, AGD President. “Only six percent of all dentists have achieved this designation, and we are proud to honor Dr. Mooney for his commitment and dedication to provide his patients with advanced and exceptional oral health care. He is exceeding industry requirements and paving a path of success distinguishing himself professionally amongst his peers and exemplifying his allegiance to the dental community.”
Dr. Alyssa Tarpy
Dr. Alyssa Tarpy is a Woburn native and graduate of Boston College and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. After graduating from Tufts, she completed her General Practice Residency at the University of Vermont. While there, she furthered her training in all dental specialties through clinical work with different specialists and general dentists. She gained experience working in a hospital setting at UVM Medical Center and also treated underserved areas in rural Vermont. She is excited to come back to Woburn and care for the community that she grew up in!
Dr. Tarpy is a member of the American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society, Eastern Middlesex District Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry.
In her spare time, Dr. Tarpy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, especially at the beach. She also enjoys snowboarding, reading and traveling.
Dr. Vanessa Thai
Dr. Vanessa Thai was born and raised in Massachusetts and has lived in Massachusetts her whole life. Dr. Thai completed her endodontics training at Harvard University School of Dental Medicine where she learned the latest non-surgical and micro-surgical endodontics techniques. Before endodontics residency, Dr. Thai completed a general practice residency at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine where she gained extra training in treating both medically complex patients and patients with dental anxiety. Dr. Thai obtained her dental degree from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine where she was the recipient of several scholarships including the Boston University Women Graduates’ Club Scholarship and the Boston University Women’s Council Scholarship.
Dr. Thai is excited to serve her community and is intent on providing a painless root canal experience for her patients. When Dr. Thai is not in the office, she enjoys running, finding new restaurants and bakeries (she’s always looking for recommendations!) and spending time with her friends and family.
Dr. Thai is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, Massachusetts Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, and the Massachusetts Dental Society.
Kara
Kara is a Woburn native and we are excited she joined our team in 2019 as a Dental Assistant. Kara graduated Plymouth State University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health education and is a great fit to Mooney Dental. She enjoys getting to know all the patients and forming relationships with them. She always has a smile on her face and always offering to help in any way possible.
Kara is newly married, she enjoys running and has recently completed the Chicago and Boston marathons! She also enjoys cooking, spending time with friends and family and walking her dog Ellis.
Stephanie
Colleen
Colleen has been with Dr. Mooney for 21 years. Her extensive experience, great communication skills and friendly manner help her guide our patients through the dental process. She appreciates how positive the office environment is here. “We all work very well together to provide the best service for our patients. Our office staff is very warm and inviting. I love the positive energy felt by everyone and I appreciate the care Dr. Mooney and our team strive to provide, as individuals and collectively, to each patient”.
In her spare time, Colleen loves to spend time with her family, cook and travel with her husband.
Emily
Emily is one of our Dental Assistants who has been with Dr. Mooney since 2015. She graduated from Woburn Memorial High school in 2019. Currently, she continues her Undergraduate studies in Biological Sciences and is enrolled in the Pre-Dental program at the University of Rhode Island where she is the President of the Pre-Dental Student Body. She has gained a wide array of knowledge with all-things sterilization, lab processing and recently completed her Radiology Certification at Boston University. Emily has traveled to Guatemala with the volunteer group, VIDA, where she treated patients in undersevered communites. She also has a fun time getting creative with our social media accounts. She loves learning new things and sharing these experiences with others.
Emily grew up in Woburn alongside her two older brothers, Patrick and Ryan. After a long day of studying and taking care of our patients, Emily enjoys spending time with her nephew Oliver, family and friends. You may spot her walking Horn Pond with her dog Rocco!
Nancy
Nancy was born and raised in Woburn and is a proud graduate of Woburn High School. Nancy has been with Dr. Mooney for 15 years. She is always happy to help our patients with appointments, understanding their dental treatment plans and answer any questions or concerns that may arise during the treatment planning process. More often than not she is the soothing voice you will hear on the other end of the line when you call our office!
She currently resides in Reading with her husband and 2 children. Nancy is a loyal Boston sports fan. Especially loves the Patriots and currently suffers from a broken heart thanks to Tom Brady! Outside of the office she and her family like to travel to Aruba for some fun in the sun and a spin on the roulette wheel!
Katie
Katie is one of the newest members of the Mooney Dental team, joining us in March of 2021! She is a Stoneham native, with plenty family members in Woburn! Katie is a graduate of SNHU with a bahelor’s degreee in Communication with a minor in Graphic Design. She has proven herself to be a great asset to the team, being able to switch roles from Dental Administration to Dental Assistant!
Katie is married and has a 2 year old son named Oliver! Outside the office, Katie enjoys spending time with her family, friends and her dog Lola. She loves shopping, cooking and boxing class!
Arianna
Arianna is one of our staff hygienist. After graduating with a BS from Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene at MCPHS in 2019 Arianna is literally living the dream, as her desire for a career in the dental field blossomed at the ripe old age of 3. With her high energy, quick wit, and gentle touch, clients who see her for their care receive the highest level of dental hygiene and education services.
When Arianna steps out of the office, she transforms into a Lego enthusiast with a soft spot for her significant other, family and cat!
